The most important thing to remember before praying for any type of financial miracle or breakthrough is that God cares more about your relationship with Him as well as your state in life (i.e. walking in a state of sanctifying grace and virtue) than how much money you have in the bank. In fact, God will keep His beloved children from having money if He sees it harming their soul (and thus eternal salvation).
God’s Prosperity
Many times when God speaks of “prosperity” for His children, He is indeed speaking of a life of strong faith and virtue; a life of good morale, character, health, prayer, etc. Notice how ‘prosperity’ oftentimes has nothing to do with money, especially because having money can turn into a love for money and subsequently cause harm to deepening our relationship with God.
Indeed, God knows that if our heart’s disposition is not rightly ordered, wealth will more often than not hinder our spiritual progress and eternal destination – the most important aspect of our lives.
That stated, God is infinitely wise. He understands that having money is a necessary part of life as well. After all, how can we bless others with the gift of finance if we ourselves are in lack? Once one’s heart is properly formed, God loves to bless His children financially – especially when He knows they’ll be good stewards of His blessing.
3 things to keep in mind before seeking a financial blessing
1.) God must remain FIRST
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” –Matt. 6:24;
2.) We must first be trustworthy with the gifts God has already given us
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?” –Lk 16:10-11
3.) We are called to be good stewards with what He is about to give us by giving to the poor (Prov. 22:9) and tithing to His Church
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house. ‘Test Me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of Heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it’” –Mal. 3:10.
*Note this verse in Malachi regarding tithing. It is the only place in the Bible where God tells us to “test Him” — and it is with our finances!
