Our Lady of Fatima: History, Devotion, and Powerful Prayer for Intercession
Our Lady of Fatima is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary when she appeared at Fatima, Portugal between May and October of 1917 to three poor shepherd children.

Lucia (10) and her cousins Francisco Marto (9) and Jacinta (7) were tending sheep one day when a flash of bright light suddenly caught their attention and settled above a tree. Within the light was a beautiful Lady dressed in white with a rosary in her hand. She told the children she was from Heaven. She asked them to meet her at the same spot on the thirteenth of the next five consecutive months and to pray the rosary daily for world peace.
On June 13th, one month after the first visit with the children, Mary told them (prophesied) that Francisco and Jacinta would go to Heaven soon but that Lucia would remain on earth in order to promote devotion to her (Mother Mary’s) Immaculate Heart. During this visit, Our Lady also asked for an added prayer to be recited after each decade of the rosary – “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.”
Third Visit: Three Secrets of Fatima

The third visit of our Lady took place on July 13th wherein around five thousand people gathered on a hill after the children asked Our Lady to prove to them that they were not lying about her. Only the children could see Mary as they spoke with one another. On this day, before she performed a miracle for all to see, she spread out her hands and gave the three shepherd children a terrifying vision of hell. She also predicted another war and asked for Russia to be consecrated to her Immaculate Heart.
It was also during this visit that Mother Mary gave the seers three important secrets. In addition, she asked that people receive Communion of reparation for sin on the first Saturday of each month (First Saturday Devotion). Feeling threatened, a government official ended up jailing the children on August 13th, threatening to boil them alive in oil if they did not reveal to him the three secrets Our Lady had given them. But alas, the children would have rather died for their faith than go against their promise to Our Lady.
On August 19th, Mary appeared to them in a different place. Then during the apparition on September 13th, over thirty thousand people witnessed a miraculous shower of white petals.
Final Visit

On October 13th, after a heavy rain, seventy thousand (!) people (most of whom were non-believers) witnessed what is known today as “the miracle of the sun” wherein the Queen of Heaven allowed the sun to seemingly spin out of the sky, out of its natural orbit, and toward the people. She did this for the children in order to prove that they were indeed telling the truth about her apparitions.
During this visit, numerous miraculous healings and conversions happened amongst the 70,000 spectators. Moreover, the children witnessed Our Lady and St. Joseph with the Child Jesus blessing the world, Jesus blessing the entire crowd, and Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Francisco and Jacinta ended up passing away shortly thereafter while Lucia stayed upon earth, continuing to receive visions of Our Lady as well as her warnings for the world just as she (Our Lady) had prophesied. In 1927 the first two secrets of Our Lady of Fatima were revealed to the world, but the third secret, which was supposed to be revealed to the entire human race in 1960 (or before Lucia passed) as Our Lady exhorted, was never completely revealed.

Powerful Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima
O Most Holy Virgin Mary,
Queen of the most holy Rosary,
you were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima
and reveal a glorious message.
We implore you,
inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary.
By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein
may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
Quote from Our Lady of Fatima
“I come from Heaven, I am the Lady of the Rosary. I have come to warn the faithful to amend their lives and to ask pardon for their sins. They must not offend Our Lord anymore, for He is already too grievously offended by the sins of men. People must say the Rosary. If people do as I ask, many souls will be converted and there will be peace.”
