The Lord Will Examine and Prove Us – Psalm 26:2

Examine me, Lord, and test me;
    search my heart and [my] mind.

Reflection

Exams usually make us nervous. Having the Lord examine us is an even more daunting thought. But the reality is, having the Lord examine our hearts and our minds is actually a good thing. A very good and necessary thing. It has been said that we speak to God by way of our thoughts. In other words, God knows (and examines) every thought we think … and when He examines our heart, He takes it even a step further. God knows everything. And while this process may seem a bit uncomfortable, it is a vitally important step in not only our liberation but our sanctification. Anything embedded in our thoughts or motivations that will hold us back or hinder our relationship with Him will be brought to the forefront and rendered asunder. Keep in mind that everything God does is for our greater good and His ultimate glory. A win-win!

Today, examine your heart and your mind. What have you been thinking lately? Where is your heart? Have you been hard on yourself (or someone else) about something that has gone wrong? Have you been feeling angry or impatient? Wherever your heart is today, invite God in to examine your innermost being. Because we serve an all-knowing, all-loving and all-merciful God, He will speak to your soul Words of forgiveness, hope and promise. And through your faith and humility, the Lord will declare you free from the heavy burden(s) you’ve been carrying. God wants you to have the best life possible. Above all, He wants you in Heaven with Him forever. So rest assured that while God examining our hearts and minds may seem intimidating, it is actually a divine act of grace and love. Behold, He is making all things new! (Rev. 21:5)

“Examine me, Lord, and test me; search my heart and mind” – Psalm 26:2.

Prayer

Lord, we willingly open ourselves up to You today so that You may examine our hearts and our minds ever more deeply. See if there is any wicked way in us, test us, Lord, and then lead us in Your way everlasting (Ps. 139:24). We desire above all to hear Your gentle voice of guidance. Give us then the strength and courage to do all that You command of us. It is in your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.
