Verse of the Day: October 29th — Ephesians 1:18-19
“May the eyes of [your] hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to His call, what are the riches of glory in His inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power for us who believe.”
—Ephesians 1:18-19
Just like we are today, the largely Gentile audience of the Ephesus region was eager to probe the great mysteries of Christ; the knowledge of which is an inexhaustible fountain of Wisdom and love. To this end, Paul prayed that they (we!) would receive the “spirt of Wisdom” (v 17); and that through the Spirit our hearts and minds would be opened … better understanding and applying the Lord’s call in and through our lives. Oh, what great and unfathomable glory lies ahead for those who believe!
Today’s Prayer:
“Lord Jesus, help us to trust You in every area of our lives. As You graciously show us what needs to be done, give us the Wisdom, strength and patience to carry it out. We join St. Paul in prayer today, praying for the eyes of our hearts to be enlightened by Your Word and Your will. Please continue to guide us unto the pathway of holiness; and as You do, help us to not be focused on the corporeal and material aspects of this world. Rather, to keep our eyes fixed on You; on the spiritual and eternal; on all the glorious things to come. It is in Your good and Holy Name we pray, Amen.”
